Winter Sun Holidays
The British winters can be long, cold and usually wet. Why not escape the winter season for a week or two and head off for some winter sunshine? You don't have to travel very far from the UK to get some guaranteed winter sunshine. A winter sun holiday can be taken anytime between October and April. Outside that period, holidays to the sunshine are generally referred to as Summer Sun Holidays. If you are prepared to travel for 3 hours on a plane then even on the darkest wettest day in the UK you could be sat in guaranteed sunshine by a pool enjoying your winter sun holiday. You don't have to travel all the way to the Caribbean nor be on a big budget to achieve this.
Winter Sun Holidays – Destinations
The Canary Islands are very popular with winter sun holiday makers, being approximately three and a half hours from most places in the UK. The Island of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote all offer a wide range of holidays in hotels or self catering apartments, with accommodation having a good choice of star ratings. If you are happy to travel further afield, then places like the Gambia or Egypt are still only a maximum of 5 hours flying time and offer a great choice of destination for winter sun and somewhere with a bit more interest. You might want to consider going further still. Our winter is a great time to go to the Maldives, Mauritius and Dubai. These destinations offer very different types of holiday but the one thing they all have in common is the sun.
If you don't want to travel too far, consider Madeira or Malta approximately two and a half hours flight duration from the UK, neither perhaps quite as warm as other destinations but still with very little rain in the winter and a very pleasant climate. Travelling here will also mean you can get a cheap holiday as there are often lots of reduced package holidays to these destinations in what is generally regarded as the low season.
