A little bit about Larnaca

Because Larnaca is home to Cyprus' largest international airport and second largest sea port it is widely considered to be the island's international gateway for holidays. Larnaca offers a lot of culture and history to be explored at a leisurely pace. One of it's main cultural contributors is that it is one of the oldest cities in the world which has been constantly inhabited, which has given it extensive history.

Activities in Larnaca

Aside from the excellent wealth of history and culture that can be found in Larnaca, it is also considered a yachting Mecca because of it's 400 berth marina. The yachting visitors are mainly attracted, besides the excellent marina, because of the deep blue sea, frequent sunshine and hot sandy beaches which line the coast and make Larnaca excellent for holidays. An incredible view of the Mediterranean sea can be found on the promenade along the harbour. Not only is the sea spectacular but the palm tree lined promenade also offers fantastic shops and classy cafés; ideal for a day of seaside strolling.

Journeys to Larnaca

Although on the same continent as the UK, Larnaca is over two thousand miles (3200 km) away. The average jumbo jet would take around four hours to get to Larnaca as the crow flies, unfortunately weather usually adds at least an extra 30 minutes to this. Direct flights with the two national airlines of Britain and Cyprus have regular flights between Larnaca and London Heathrow (amongst other UK airports).

The long history of Larnaca

The city was once known by the name of Kition in the Old Testament. The cultures and history if the island city can be explored in the two major museums. These museums have preserved the wealth of archaeological heritage the city has boasted throughout the centuries. Larnaca has many ruins in and around the city, some dating back to when it was 'Kition' others are Neolithic but all offer fascinating, first-hand history.
