Kos - Holidays
Kos holidays are very popular with British holiday makers. Kos is a typical package holiday to the Greek islands. Most Kos holidays are based in the two major resorts, Kardamaena and Kos Town. Kos hotels are concentrated in beach resorts like Lambi and Psalidi on the east coast. If you are looking for a quieter holiday in Kos you can find these on the smaller resorts of the north coast such as Tingaki and Marmari. Beautiful sandy beaches, exciting watersports and professional scuba diving courses make Kos an Ideal family and couples destination.
Kos - Flights
Flights to Kos are very easy, most major airlines both charter and low cost fly direct to Kos airport (Hippocrates) from the major UK airports including London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Located 22 miles south-west of Kos Town, tranfers from Hippocrates to your resort will generally be minimal.
Kos - History & Culture
Kos played a prominent part in antiquity due to the healing temple of Asclepius. This was founded after the death of the pioneering physician Hippocrates, who is believed to have taught his students on the island. It also features the remains of temples for other healing deities, including Isis and Sarapis, and appears to have been long regarded as an island healing retreat. The island also boasts a tree that is reputedly the oldest in Europe and Hippocrates is said to have given lectures from under its shade.
Kos also has a number of archaeological remains from the Persian, Turkish, Roman and Byzantine conquerors that have all made their mark during the Island’s long history.
