Holidays in Laganas
Located in the south-eastern corner of Zante (Zakynthos), Laganas is the most intense and popular spot for holidays on the whole island. It is extremely sought after by young British party overs who wish to spend their summer holidays on the warm and golden sands with a beer in hand. Laganas is famed for it's impressively long beaches which are of very good quality and run for over five and a half miles that shelves gently into warm, azure waters. As it is the only resort in Zante that is directly aimed at the 18-30 crowd holidays, it tends to be somewhat busy in the summer, but this never seems to detract from the enjoyment of this fabulous holiday destinations. There is a very much 'more the merrier' feel the to resort.
Things to keep you busy in Laganas
Daytime activities in Laganas are very much aimed at traditional holiday fun, ranging from mini-golf to beach volleyball along with theme parks and water parks. One thing visitors never fail to miss is the atmosphere of the resort, the number one aim is for everyone there for have an excellent time. There are no pretences of culture or sightseeing, although these are in plentiful supply if one wants to look hard enough. These are a little way out into the countryside in the smaller villages, but are fascinating none the less. There are also opportunities for walking into the back streets and the surrounding countryside, or if one is feeling particularly adventurous, Donkey Trekking.
Of course one cannot forget that the main lure of Laganas; the nightlife. With over 100 bars and restaurants and numerous clubs of all shapes, sizes and themes, visitors will never be lost to find somewhere for the next shot, cocktail or 'fishbowl drink' (a famous product of the bars in the area). The main idea here is to visit as many bars as possible then dance like there's no tomorrow, and the holiday makers here love it.
Getting to Laganas
Laganas is only around 15 minutes from Zakynthos airport and this transfer can easily be taken by either taxi or organised by your tour operator. Either way they are cheap and quick, so you won't be delayed on your way to the bars. Flights are frequent from the UK and usually very cheap with airlines such as Easyjet or Monarch. Flights are very short to this fantastic island at around two and a half hours, meaning your quick getaway to the sun is as stress free and possible.
The turtles in Laganas
Many holiday makers tend to notice the unusual lack of water sports in Laganas, that usually frequents resorts of this nature. This is because of the ban on water sports, put in place to protect the 1,300 loggerhead turtles that nest on the beaches in this area. They are a wild and conserved creature that need protecting along with their eggs, which they lay on the beach. The visitors are asked not to disturb them because they are so rare.
