Introduction
Aqaba is Jordan's only tourist resort on the sea and it is renowned for it's spectacular diving spots. Aqaba is located on the tip of the Red Sea in southern Jordan and it's main attraction lies of the coast in the Gulf of Aqaba, amazing coral reefs. Some rate Aqaba's reefs as the best in the world and are home to incredible aquatic life that can be discovered by snorkeling almost as easily as diving. The water has high visibility year round and if you don't want to be under the water then there are plenty of activities available on the surface such as swimming, waterskiing, parasailing, fishing or sunbathing.

Hot sandy beaches the colourful corals make for a great beach holiday, as long as relaxation is an objective. with its ideal location Aqaba's climate allows for year round tourism. Hotels are available but apartments and villas are rare. More cultural venues include the desert of Wadi Rum which is home to spectacular scenery and the ancient rock city, Petra.

Flights from London will usually change at Amman and go with Royal Jordanian, British Airways or BMI amongst others. After leaving London a normal flight expectation is around 18 hours before landing in Aqaba Airport.
Aqaba 2012 – History & Culture
Aqaba has a wealth of history behind it, starting in 4000BC. A church in the city was recently calculated to have been built in the 3rd century AD which makes it the worlds oldest. Ayla is another worthy visiting site, a medieval ruin of a walled city containing a Mamluke fort which proves of great interest to all travellers seeking history & culture. Aqaba is in a strategic position as shown by the ruins and was the main port on the trading route between Africa and the Far East in ancient times. This would have made Aqaba a very wealthy community and that is likely to be why the town thrives today.
