A quieter place to rest your head in Matagorda
Around a mile from Lanzarote's bustling holiday city of Puerto del Carmen lies Matagorda and its sister resort, Los Pocillos. These busy resorts offer some of the largest beaches in Lanzarote and some of the most widely appreciated hotels and facilities. The resorts have something to offer every type of traveller from the extreme sunbather to the most professional windsurfer. Matagorda has a gently sloping beach of fine, dark sand, particularly popular for windsurfing. It boasts a central commercial centre with a fair choice of restaurants and a supermarket. In general the area is ideal for those seeking a peaceful, relaxing holiday without too many bright lights.

This resort is ideally placed only a few minutes from the airport and well connected by foot and road to several other resort towns. It is connected to the larger, more outgoing resort of Puerto del Carmen by a pleasant, long promenade walkway. This means that visitors who opt for staying in the quieter environs of Matagorda, can easily access the more boisterous entertainment and nightlife of Puerto del Carmen.
There is a large range of accommodation for holidaymakers to take advantage of in Matagorda, there are many hotels for those that enjoy the luxuries, however this area offers a wonderful array of self catering apartments and holiday homes. These are very suitable for families wishing to experience the holiday either on a budget or exploring the local Spanish food and culture.
Getting to Matagorda
The closest airport is Lanzarote's main airport, which is serviced my many UK airlines such as Monarch, Flights last around four and a half hours and transfers should take no more than around fifteen minutes if you choose to get a taxi or slightly longer with coach transfers, depending on your airline.
The atmosphere
This resort is usually described as modern, friendly and fun. Making this resort the ideal choice for those with children. There are still traces of this once small fishing village to those who enjoy exploring will have their fill, but the main focus of the area is the guests and their enjoyment of these wonderful surrounds. Because of this resort's quieter nature most of the entertainment is hotel run but there is still some local entertainment to be found in the town centre's backstreets, if you look hard enough.
