Las Vegas is described as the 'world's largest theme park'. This fantastic American city sits in the middle of the large Mojave Desert and was created for the sole purpose of entertainment and gambling hoidays. This incredible city is home to only a million residents however over 35 million more arrive each year to stay in the luxury high-rise hotels. The main attraction of Las Vegas definitely resides in the multitude of casinos, each with a different and more extravagant twist than the last. Some find it hard to believe that this adult playground was a small town with under 1000 inhabitants only 70 years ago. The thriving metropolis flourished after the state of Nevada legalised gambling in March 1931 and by the end of April six licenses had already been issued. Since then the city has offered more and more extravigant holidays.

The luxury Flamingo Hilton on Highway 91 has been a huge attraction for holidays ever since it was opened in 1946 by the Mafia don Ben 'Bugsy' Siegel. It was then that the Las Vegas Boulevard was truly born and the city would be changed forever. Popular celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Liberace and Sinatra all performed in Las Vegas when the city was quickly evolving into one of the worlds best cities for holidays. After the 1960s the Mafia's hold on the city's huge gambling trade was weakened and great business empires were formed to take over the numerous casinos and hotels. Holidays have never been better.
Flights to Las Vegas 2012
Las Vegas is serviced by two major airports which have seven runways between them. McCarran International Airport is the main airport servicing Las Vegas and has almost fifty thousand passengers per year, the majority of which are there for holidays. Transatlantic airlines like Virgin Atlantic have frequent flights to Las Vegas. Direct flights are available though they are less common than those which connect in locations such as Atlanta or Denver. Both of the major airports are within five miles of the Las Vegas' central business district. For tourists not on package holidays, taxis are very simple to get from the airport into the city itself so the trip is extremely easy; though it can take over fourteen hours total. The easy journey is one of the reasons holudays in Vegas are so attractive.
Cheap holidays in Las Vegas 2012
Of the 21 largest hotels in the world, 18 of them are in Las Vegas and throughout the city's short history many grand buildings have been constructed lining what is now the 'Las Vegas Strip'. Adventurous holidays will involve strolling down this huge road where visitors will find the skylines of Paris and New York, the canals of Venice and the Egyptian Pryamids. Explorations on the Strip will also reveal Treasure Island where a full sea battle is commenced between pirates and a British Galleon. Though gambling is still the primary entertainment and purpose of holidays, Las Vegas is creating more and more places for family orientated holidays such as theme parks, golf courses and shopping malls. Though the history of Las Vegas is not extensive, once a visitor arrives in the city, culture is forgotten due to the allure of the spectacular casinos, designed to entice tourists inside.
