Flights from the UK usually fly directly into Havana, which is 85 miles away from Varadero and last around 8 hours. Transfers will be cheap if you book it as part of your package or you can get a taxi, the journey lasts around and hour and a half.

Cuba is extremely popular for it's music, a great deal of which is showcased in the hotels in Varadero's entertainment.
