This purpose built territory was designed to house Australia’s capital city of Canberra, which was chosen as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne, the country's two biggest cities. Despite this, Canberra completely holds its own as a historic, artistic and cultural hotspot which documents the country’s development over the centuries.
Outside of the city, there are sprawling National Parks and stunning natural wonders that make the region come alive. Mountains soar, animals roam free and the discerning traveller can interact with it all, exploring the walking trails and Aboriginal rock art. The state of New South Wales completely surrounds the ACT, and it’s here you’ll find Sydney and the majestic Blue Mountains. A drive south will take you to Melbourne.
