The South Island of New Zealand is far more scenic than its northern counterpart; not to say that North Island isn’t scenic, but South Island features more mountains, lakes, rivers and forests – making it a truly wonderful destination for dedicated travellers and adventure seekers. The most well-known city is Christchurch, known as the Garden City due to its many flowers and trees that act as a forest throughout the suburbs.

The Southern Alps form a backbone to the island, creating many opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and trekking; not to mention the sailing available on the fjords, gliding available from the peaks and all sorts of outdoor recreational activities and excursions. For culture, head to Scottish influenced Dunedin.
