South Africa’s southern coastline is considered one of the best drives in the world, giving you ample opportunities to witness a vast array of African wildlife, natural wonders, and sprawling picturesque cities. You get a few nights in each location too so you have no excuse not to get out of your hotel and discover your surroundings.

Delve into Cape Town’s fascinating history, landmarks and laidback lifestyle; indulge in the Cape Wineland’s award-winning wines, fabulous landscapes and architecture; admire the whales splitting the horizon on the Whale Coast; enjoy a few activities on the amazing Garden Route; and watch the majesty of elephants, lions, giraffes and other game on a safari at the exclusive Eastern Cape Game Reserve, Pumba.

Prices are based on two adults sharing a Twin/Double room. Please contact us for a bespoke quotation based on your preferred travel dates and choice of hotels/game reserves.

Day 1: UK – Cape Town

The first day of your holiday will be spent travelling on an overnight flight to Cape Town.

Day 2: Cape Town

Cape Town is one of the world's most beautiful cities and a top international destination. Large volumes of tourist flock to Cape Town to enjoy this unique city with its fascinating history, interesting culture, natural beauty, award winning wines and laidback lifestyle. Whether you are a serious tourist or just want to lie on the beach and enjoy life, Cape Town will satisfy your needs.

Today you will arrive into Cape Town off your flight from London Heathrow via Johannesburg. You will be met in the arrivals hall by a representative who will assist you in collecting your hire car before driving you’re your hotel.

Stay for 3 nights at the SunSquare Cape Town Hotel or similar on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 3: Explore Cape Town

This morning you may choose to explore the city of Cape Town at your own leisure. Why not check out Robben Island, the icon of struggle in South Africa’s turbulent past, including the prison cell of Nelson Mandela; the Table Mountain Cableway, a rewarding 360 view of the city from 1000m above where you can also go for a walk, have a bite to eat and enjoy the unique environment. Alternatively why not take a visit to the V&A Waterfront located in the heart of the city. Enjoy the exciting shopping and entertainment opportunities in the heart of the working harbour. Take time to admire the backdrop of sea and mountains. Camps Bay is also a great choice to visit, the wealthy coastal suburb boasts a very glamorous beach.

Day 4: Cape Town & Surroundings

You’ve got another day to explore this magnificent city. There’s so much to do that you can’t have fit it all in yesterday. Perhaps head to the picturesque location of Cape Point and stop off at the many wonderful iconic viewpoints and delightful fishing villages along the way.

Boulders Beach is a great choice for those with children as the immense boulders shelter the cove from currents and large waves. There are also opportunities to swim with the penguins but caution is advise and you must not touch or feed them. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, on the lower slopes of Table Mountain offer beautiful gardens to explore, showcasing Cape Town’s rich flora. The gardens also have a restaurant, tea room and bar.

Day 5: Cape Town – Franschhoek

After breakfast, drive out of Cape Town, heading east and after an hour of driving you will arrive at the beautiful town of Franschhoek. The spectacular mountains and valley scenery has become synonymous with some of the world finest wines. This desired destination offers fine hotels and guest houses, 300 years of wine making history and many of the country’s top restaurants.

This afternoon you may decide to take an independent wine tasting and vineyard tour, explore the beauty of the region and discover what makes this part of the world so special.

Stay for 2 nights at the Lavender Farm Guest House or similar on a bed & breakfast basis.
 

Day 6: Franschhoek

Take an independent tour of the Cape Winelands, exploring the beauty of the region and taking in what makes this part of the world so special. Recommended locations are the Franschhoek Wine Tram, a hop-on hop-off tour that takes you through vineyards, scenery, and South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates, with regular stops en-route; Boschendal Wine Estate, a famous vino residence complete with exceptionally manicured gardens and Manor House; and Spier Wine Farm, an estate with a recorded history dating back to 1692, with supreme heritage, contemporary experiences, picnics on the Eerste River, restaurants, South African art, and award-winning wine tasting. 

Day 7: Franschhoek – Oudtshoorn

After breakfast, continue your journey along Route 62, Oudtshoorn bound (journey time approximately 5 hours).

Route 62 is understandably one of the most beautiful drives in South Africa. Your journey will take you through vast landscapes, twisting rocky gorges and jagged peaks on the horizon.

Upon arrival in Oudtshoorn, the ‘Ostrich capital of the world’ you might decide to stretch your legs and take a stroll around the small town, where the buildings are all made of sandstone rock or perhaps take a visit a nearby Ostrich farm.

Stay for 2 nights at the Hlangana Lodge or similar on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 8: Oudtshoorn

After breakfast, you might decide to head out in the car to explore the Cango Caves. Daily guided tours are available and if you are feeling particularly adventurous and wish to delve deeper, visitors can explore underground tunnels, squeeze through narrow chimneys, moving from chamber to chamber!
 

Day 9: Oudtshoorn – Plettenberg Bay

Enjoy breakfast before heading off to continue your journey to Plettenburg Bay (approximately 3 hour drive).

We recommend stopping off along the Garden Route at Knysna. This wonderful town boasts stunning scenery, forests and tranquil lagoon. You may wish to stop off for lunch at one of the delightful cafes or restaurants.

Arrive into Plettenberg Bay in the afternoon and settle into your accommodation before exploring the area.

Stay for 3 nights at the Milkwood Manor on Sea or similar on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 10: Plettenberg Bay

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring Plettenberg Bay at your own leisure.

Perhaps embark on a cruise around the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where your local guide will be able to inform you about the private reserve and the stunning flora and fauna that can be found here. Alternatively, you may wish to choose to spend time exploring the Robberg nature reserve which is located just 8km from Plettenberg Bay, it is a national monument and World Heritage Site. Highlights here include spotting the rare blue duiker and visiting the Cape Seal lighthouse, which sits 146m about sea level and is regarded the highest light on the South African coastline.

Day 11: Plettenberg Bay

Enjoy another day to spend at your own leisure. You might wish to spend the day at one of the beautiful sandy beaches or perhaps spend the day exploring Tistikamma National Park.

Day 12: Plettenberg Bay – Pumba Private Game Reserve

After breakfast, continue your journey for 4 hours to Pumba Private Game Reserve near Grahamstown.

Pumba is an eco-friendly private game reserve set against the beautiful Eastern Cape landscape. This impressive reserve is the perfect destination for a Big Five African Safari. Experience Africa’s wildlife in their natural habitat, from the famous white lion to hippo, hyena, giraffe, wild dog, cheetah, including 21 antelope species and over 250 bird species.
Once you have settled in to your accommodation, you will head out to experience your first game drive. Guests of Pumba have the rare opportunity of seeing the majestic White Lion, hunting its prey and snoozing in the afternoon African sun! Once the sun goes down, enjoy a gourmet dinner paired with vintage wines under the African stars.

Stay 2 nights at the Pumba Private Game Reserve (or similar)

Day 13: Pumba Private Game Reserve

Your day will be spent discovering the amazing scenery and animals on safari at Pumba Game Reserve.

Day 14: Pumba Private Game Reserve

After a hearty breakfast, bid farewell to Pumba’s wildlife and drive to Port Elizabeth Airport where you will return your hire car and meet your flight for your return journey back to the UK.

Day 15: Overnight Flight - UK

Today you will arrive back into the UK and return home.
