Holidays to Sivota
Greek mainland holidays offer many picturesque places and peaceful retreats and Sivota is undoubtedly one of them. Traditional, unspoilt and relatively untouched by tourism, Sivota remains as a favoured destination for Greeks and international tourists alike.
Located in north-western Greece, it can be reached from Preveza airport with the transfer taking no longer than approximately 60 minutes. Sivota holidays are ideal for families or couples looking to escape the city-induced stress and unwind in a truly traditional Greek environment.
The natural beauty is outstanding, rewarding the lucky traveller with lush pine forests, cypress trees and olive groves that sweep down to the water’s edge. The waterfront is the focal point, with a small marina and a little smattering of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Sivota - Quiet Village Life
The accommodation choices on Sivota holidays go in line with the traditional character of the village. There are no high rise buildings, holiday complexes or big hotels; just a few small guest houses and self catering studios scattered around the village. Wherever you stay, it all has good access to the main beach facing the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea.
There are several beaches to choose from on holiday in Sivota, most of them offering peaceful seclusion so you can be safe in the knowledge you can relax in peace. The harbour moors several boats, and in the evening becomes the main meeting point for the locals and tourists on their Sivota holidays. Sample the traditional Greek food in one of the friendly family run tavernas or simply enjoy a cool drink and watch the lovely sunsets over the marina.
When you’re feeling regenerated from the rest and fancy a day away to explore the surroundings, try Igoumenitsa, the closest large town. There’s more to see and do and also more people too so attractions and activities should be in good supply.
To get closer to nature, wander by Sivota’s turquoise Acheron River and the multitude of lakes and wetlands that feature many special species of birds and animals including pelicans, storks and different types of eagle. Also nearby is Necromandio, the ancient entrance to Hades, the Greek God of Death, where the locals went to speak to the dead for advice. Nikopolis, a little further south, will astonish the history enthusiasts even further with its marvellous archaeological sites.
Grab a boat and sail around the coast; aside from the bigger resort islands, there are hundreds of tiny islets and rocky outcrops for you to spot as well as sea creatures like dolphins and whales. If you’d prefer day trips to the bigger isles, there is a ferry from Igoumenitsa to Corfu. There are also options to get to Paxos and Antipaxos.
If you like the water but prefer to say closer to home then snorkelling, diving, windsurfing and water-skiing are right on your doorstep. Parga is about an hour away and it has a beautiful Venetian Castle, plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants.
